If the story of King Kamehameha I peaks your interests, a stop at the Iao Valley State Park is a must. It is here, on the sacred lands of Iao Valley, where King Kamehameha I defeated the forces of Maui to conquer the island in the Battle of Kepaniwai in 1790. When you arrive at Iao Valley, look up to see the Iao Needle that served as the critical lookout point for King Kamehameha I. For more information, call the Hawaii State Parks at 808-882-6206.
