The Island of Hawaii, often called the Big Island, is the largest and most diverse island in the Hawaiian chain. From black sand beaches and lava fields to lush rainforests and snow-capped volcanoes, the landscapes here are unlike anywhere else in Hawaii (and the world!). Whether you’re exploring volcanic parks, relaxing by the ocean, or discovering small coastal towns, the Big Island offers endless opportunities for something new and exciting.
When is the Best Time to Visit the Big Island?
The Big Island is a great destination year-round thanks to its varied climates and wide range of activities. Winter months bring cooler temperatures at higher elevations and excellent whale watching along the coast. Summer offers warm, sunny beach days perfect for snorkeling and ocean activities. Spring and fall are also wonderful times to visit if you’re looking for fewer crowds and mild weather across the island.
What Airport Should We Fly Into for the Big Island?
Since our Big Island rentals are in Waikoloa, it makes the most sense to fly into Kona International Airport (KOA), located on the island’s west side. The drive from Kona International Airport to Waikoloa takes about 30 minutes, which makes it nice and easy to get to your vacation rental and start enjoying the island right away!
Because the Big Island is large and many attractions are spread out, we recommend renting a car so you can explore everything you want to.
Top Beaches on the Big Island
The Kohala Coast near Waikoloa is home to some of the Big Island’s most beautiful beaches. These spots are great for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing and enjoying the water!
Best Places to Eat on the Big Island
Great food is always part of the experience when visiting Hawaii, and the Big Island has plenty of excellent restaurants nearby. Staying in our Big Island vacation rentals in Waikoloa gives you access to casual local spots as well as popular oceanfront dining options.
