Go Horseback Riding
Maui is a fantastic place to go horseback riding! We can’t imagine anything more exciting than exploring the gorgeous coastline atop a horse with your little ones. You can also have your kiddos take horseback riding lessons if you aren’t comfortable with them out on the trails just yet!
For more information, check out our Horseback Riding in Maui guide. It’s an experience you won’t forget, and one of our favorite activities in Maui!
Enjoy a Beach Day
Ah, a classic Maui pastime: spending the day at the beach! It’s the perfect activity that everyone in the family can enjoy. What could be better than lying on the sand, soaking in the sunshine, and making sandcastles with your little ones?
You can take your kids to any beach in Maui, but for the most family-friendly options, we recommend Kapalua Bay and Kahekili Beach Park. Whichever beach you choose, you’ll see stunning views you’ll remember for years. Just make sure to always stay up to date with conditions before letting your kiddos in the water!
Snorkeling Expedition
Head out on a Maui snorkeling expedition for some fun below the surface. There are so many exciting spots to explore!
You can take a snorkeling tour or brave the waters yourself. If you head out on your own, we once again must recommend Kapalua Bay. The calm waters and open visibility make it the top choice for beginner snorkelers and little ones!
Whale Watch!
If your trip falls between December and April, don’t miss the chance to go whale watching! Maui is one of the best places in the world to see humpback whales up close as they migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters to breed and nurse their calves.
You can join a whale watching boat, or see what you can spot from the shoreline! Boat watching tours are common and typically last 2-3 hours and cost anywhere from $75-$120 a person. If you have a bigger family or are traveling on a budget, don’t worry! You can see these majestic creatures from the shore, and even from your oceanfront lanai.

Spend a Rainy Day at Maui Ocean Center
A little rain doesn’t have to stop the fun! Head to the Maui Ocean Center for an easy, family-friendly day indoors. Kids can watch sea turtles glide by, walk through the underwater tunnel surrounded by tropical fish, and learn about Hawaii’s ocean life in hands-on exhibits.
It’s a fun and educational way to spend the afternoon, and you’ll stay dry while still getting a taste of Maui’s amazing marine world. Plus, it usually never rains on Maui for long—so by the time you’re done with the exhibits, it may have already let up!
