Maui Charity Walk

VICW

The 35th Annual Visitors Industry Charity Walk will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013. This annual event is held on all the main Hawaiian islands and all monies raised on the island stay on that island and benefit it’s non-profits and charities. All of the money that we raise on Maui will go directly to the non-profits and Charities here on Maui. Last year Maui raised $613,025 which was more money raised than O’ahu. This is a time for the community to pull together to raise money and awareness for the non-profits and Charities on Maui.

Maui Condo and Home is a proud sponsor of this event and each year we generously provide an aid station for the walkers participating in the event. We hand out bottled water, fruit and many other snacks and offer our aloha and encouragement to those walking for Maui’s charities.

Visiting the Lahaina Buddist Temple

While visiting Maui Lahaina is a cant miss community.  Small shops and restarurants line Front Street, along with the gigantic Banyan Tree, a historic landmark that was planted on April 24, 1873 by William Owen Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Christian Missionaries.

The interesting thing about Maui – and all of the Hawaiian Islands, is the seemingly seamless blend of culture.  Everyone here seems to have a bit of this or a bit of that somewhere in their family tree.  It comes of no suprise then, that just down the road from the Gigantic Tree that commemorates Christianity on Maui, there lies a Buddihst Temple that commemorates and honors Maui and Lahaina’s Japanese Heritage.

The Lahaina Jodo Mission lies just steps from the beach on Ala Moana Street, and is just across from a cemetery in the sand.  The history of teh area is so intertwined with waves of immigration, all of Lahaina Town is a must see.
